Asia University Department of Finance and Law graduate Xie Lianfang successfully completed the International Dual Degree Master's Program and, after one year, was accepted into the Indiana University Maurer School of Law in the U.S., where she earned a Master of Laws (LLM) degree. She also received a scholarship of approximately NT$750,000, covering half of her tuition fees. After one year of study, Xie graduated with near-perfect grades and is now preparing to return to Taiwan to complete her thesis at Asia University and earn her dual degree.
Tang Shumei, Chair of the Department of Finance and Law, mentioned that Xie set her goal of studying abroad early. After graduating from National Taiwan University’s Department of Law, she enrolled in the graduate program at Asia University’s Department of Finance and Law. After one year, she applied to the Maurer School of Law at Indiana University, which has a partnership with Asia University. Xie was awarded a scholarship of NT$750,000 due to her excellent academic performance and language proficiency, reducing her tuition fee by half, which amounts to around NT$1.5 million for the program in the U.S.
Xie explained that her time at the Maurer School of Law started on August 1st last year and will continue until May next year. In the U.S., Master’s students only need to complete coursework to earn their LLM degree, without the requirement to write a thesis. While focusing on her coursework, Xie also gathered data for her thesis at Asia University. The Maurer School of Law, ranked among the Top 10 Most Beautiful Campuses in the U.S., is very friendly to international students, and there are many Taiwanese alumni there. Although she feels reluctant to leave, she is eager to return to Taiwan to complete her thesis and earn her dual degree.
Dean Ming-Hui Chen of the College of Management at Asia University also highlighted that several students from the college have obtained dual degrees from universities in the U.S., UK, Australia, and Switzerland. Under the International Dual Degree Program, students study for two years at Asia University, paying the same tuition as domestic students, then spend two years abroad. In four years, they can earn dual degrees from both domestic and international institutions.
