A scholar from Massey University visited Asia University to give a speech of success in research

Henry Chung, Associate Professor from Massey University, visited Asia University to share his academic research experiences with faculty of the Business Administration Department.

Professor Chung is a well-known international scholar in fields of international business, international strategic marketing, immigration and marketing position areas. In recent years, he has published 30 papers in several international distinguished academic journals, including ”Industrial Marketing Management”, ”Journal of Business Research”, ”International Business Review”, ”Journal of Asia Business Studies”, ”European Journal of Marketing”, to name a few.

In his speech, he addressed an up-to-date theme related to “Top executive ties and destruction in global marketing strategy and centralization structure-subsidiary performance paradigm”. In his latest research, he found out that in the global marketing strategy, decision making structure and the performance of the overseas subsidiaries could be highly affected by the link between senior managers. Furthermore, the eastern and western enterprises could also perform differently. He said this point was a significant contribution to both theoretical and practical research.

Talking about the success in academic research, Professor Chung emphasized four ingredients. First of all, he indicated that data collection and interaction with industries were time consuming, so we needed to spend more time to build professional academic ability and mutual credits with enterprises. Second is to build personal research in ways of distinguish aspect and profession both systematically and thematically. Thirdly, he mentioned about the need for building a unique data bank. His fourth and final point was related to innovation succeed in: 1) development of new theories; 2) measurement of new variables; 3) construction of new database.

Profession Chen, Chairman of Department of Business Administration, expressed his interest in Professor Chung’s finding. He mentioned these findings indicated the variance of eastern and western enterprises when preforming practice management. Professor Chung also expressed his respect for the school improvement to Asia University.
