The director of the Creative Design and Invention Center at AU, Chien-Hua Cheng, mentioned that the Red Dot Award ranking is based on the innovation ability of the participating corporations, schools and personal studios in the world in the past five years. In addition, every artwork which has been granted a “Best of the Best Red Dot Award” can get 150 points, and one which has been granted a regular Red Dot Award can get 100 points.

Three artworks created by AU students have won Red Dot Awards in 2015. One of them, called “Pomelo as Blessing,” wins the “Best of the Best” medal, and the designer is a student, Ting-Yu Chen, from the Department of Visual Communication Design. The remaining two artworks are granted regular medals, and the award presentation ceremony will be held on Sept. 25 in Singapore.

The vice dean of the Creative Design College and the chair of the Visual Communication Design Department at AU, Sheng-Min Hsien, mentioned that the Red Dot Award is regarded as the “Academy Award” in the design circle in the world. Students and expert designers from 61 countries with a total of 4680 artworks participated the contest. In this year, 23 artworks created by AU students are shortlisted for Red Dot Awards, and as mentioned above, three artworks have been granted Red Dot Awards, one of which wins the “Best of the Best Award”.

In the past five years (not including this year), seven artworks of AU students have won Red Dot Awards. One of which obtained the “Best of the Best” medal and the other six are regular award winners. And nonetheless, this year 10 more artworks all by students from the Visual Communication Design Department also win the Red Dot Awards, in which two are granted the “Best of the Best” medals.

2015 is really a great award-winning year of AU students!
