Amid the rich aroma of coffee, Associate Professor Wang Yue-Ying from the Department of Business Administration led graduate students on an off-campus learning trip to Homu Specialty Coffee, a model social enterprise in Taichung. The visit offered students a firsthand look at how a café can embody sustainability and social responsibility, while conveying love, inclusion, and shared prosperity.
A Social Mission Behind Every Cup
Homu was founded on the belief of “giving back to society,” providing a friendly workplace for special-needs employees like Haohao and Xiaoci. Here, they not only gain professional skills but also build confidence and find purpose in society.
A Space Designed with Heart
From counter height to movement flow, every detail of Homu’s space reflects the core of “job redesign.” Students shared how deeply they were moved by the care and respect shown toward employees with disabilities, realizing the true meaning of empathy and inclusion.
From Business to Social Impact
Current manager Chen Shu-Fen, an alumna of Asia University’s MBA program, exemplifies the spirit of social entrepreneurship. Transitioning from a corporate sales career to managing Homu, she devotes herself to training special employees and promoting inclusive employment — serving as a role model for younger students.
Professor Wang noted, “Manager Chen’s journey perfectly blends professionalism with passion — a living example of corporate social responsibility in action.”
Sustainability in Space and Spirit
Students were impressed by Homu’s cozy, vintage design, with reused furniture and environmentally friendly touches throughout. Every aspect of the café reflects thoughtful design and respect for people and the planet.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
Through hands-on interaction and observation, students experienced the essence of human-centered management and the operational model of a social enterprise. As one student reflected, “Homu turns ideals into action — proving that business can be both kind and powerful.”
This meaningful visit not only deepened students’ understanding of sustainable management but also inspired them to see the value of empathy and responsibility in future workplaces.
